013Over the years, marijuana has become the “innocent” drug of choice among teens. This drug is just as serious as many others and is often a springboard to other dangerous drugs such as cocaine, heroine and the like. Teen drug abusers simply do not have the life experience to be able to make judgement calls about drugs. They see their lives as being unlimited, and cross the line without even knowing it most of the time. The majority of teen drug abusers have no idea that they truly are in serious trouble until it is too late. How does marijuana get them to that place of serious drug addiction?

Marijuana is dangerous for teens partly because it has such an innocent appearance. The mainstream media is constantly talking about it’s “medicinal” uses and the push to make it legal has moved marijuana to the point where it is similar to smoking tobacco in their minds. If it is being considered for legalization, why would a teen be scared of it?

Once they have taken that first toke and gotten that first rush of a high, many are hooked right away. The high is secondary to the escape that marijuana provides for a teen. The teen that smokes pot is usually trying to escape something, be it life or peer pressures of the day. Regardless, it is easy to become addicted to anything that makes you feel good inside.

Over time, the need for more and more marijuana will cause the teen drug addict to become addicted. They will search out the chances to smoke at every occasion. This inevitably will lead them to places and people that have something stronger to offer. This is often how a teen gets exposed to the harder stuff. When you are high, you are much more likely to try something that you otherwise might not consider.

When dealing with the hard stuff, it takes only once to have a serious addiction problem. Heroine for example can literally kill our kids the first time out. One mistake, and a teen could lose their life. This scenario has been played out in every city in the country and yet we still hear of it all the time.

The marijuana is certainly a part of the problem with our teens growing addicted to the hard drugs. Even when they are not doing the harder stuff, pot is still a serious drug that can have long and dramatic effects on our teens. The danger is real and we must step up early to stop it. This should happen long before your teen is offered his or her first joint.

Their life may depend on it.
